GoDocs was invited to support the victims of gender based violence (GBV) in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) by local NGO Hero Woman Rising, led by the gender based violence advocate, Neema Namadamu. DRC has been labeled by several organizations including the UN as “one of the worst places in the world to be a woman.”
Our medical assessment team visited hospitals and clinics throughout eastern Congo to determine the gaps in healthcare. The assessment mission included treatment of many patients as well.
Meetings were conducted with collaboration partners that included, among others, Nobel prize winner Dr. Dennis Mukwege. The GoDoc field team along with it’s partners (and a dozen DRC/US based mental health trauma medical advisors), assembled a comprehensive 35 page report on it’s findings. Included in our work are suggested implementation solutions that are sustainable and offer training for local providers as well as an exit plan.
